AIATSIS Indigenous Studies Conference 2011
AIATSIS held its biennial Indigenous Studies Conference in Canberra from 19-23 September 2011. The theme of this year's conference was Young and Old: connecting generations. For details of the conference program visit the conference website at http://www.aiatsis.gov.au/research/conf2011/conf2011.html
We are pleased to announce that the South Australian delegates did themselves proud this year at the conference yet again. Jack Buckskin was awarded the best Young Persons’ presentation of the conference with his joint presentation with Rob Amery “Re-establishing Kaurna across the generations”. And once again the Ngarrindjeri delegation won the best overall presentation for the conference, which is quite a feat considering there were over 400 delegates. The Ngarrindjeri presentation was entitled “The use of song as a tool in language revival: the Ngarrindjeri experience”, and was given by Audrey, Michael and Rita Lindsay plus Verna Koolmatrie and Mary-Anne Gale.
