New Kaurna Spelling System

During 2010 and 2011 the Kaurna community has been introducing a new spelling system for writing their language. Previously Kaurna had been written with the spellings used by Teichelmann & Schürmann, which are quite irregular and inexact. This made it hard for learners to predict how to pronounce a word based on its spelling.

The new spelling system aims to simplify and regularise how Kaurna is written, making it easier to know how to pronounce, while still reflecting some of the conventions used by Teichelmann & Schürmann which many people are already familiar with.
